Did the Saints really win the Superbowl? I am still in shock!

Let me start off by saying that I am one of the most die hard Saints fans walking this planet. I can remember the bad days as if it were yesterday. From John Fourcade to Jim Everett then to the new hope of Aaron Brooks. It seems like just yesterday I was sitting with my dad in his car listening to 870 am as the Saints lost yet another game.

On to the Drew Brees and Sean Payton era. In 2006 their was something magical about the Saints, we only missed the Super Bowl by one game. Two years passed which we missed the playoffs, and the frustration started to set in with everyone.  I knew this team built by Sean Payton could do some great things, but never did I imagine the following year we would be Super Bowl Champs. Maybe all the years of pain and being so close started to weigh on me. Don't get me wrong, I never gave up on my Saints or stopped being a fan. I just felt that I would probably be dead before I ever got to see them go all the way.

Garret Hartley's field goal sends the Saints to the Super Bowl! I was in the dome for this one. What a great game. At the end I was so nervous that I could see my hear beat through my shirt. When it looked as if the Vikings were going to get in field goal position, the savior Tracy Porter stole one from one of the best quarter backs to ever play the game. We won the toss then started off down field. I was hoping for a touchdown because I didn't want to rely on the foot of Garret Hartley (little did I Know). When he lined up to kick I must have said fifty prayers in silence. Garret Hartley lined up, looked confident as ever and nailed it. At this point, I lost my mind. I kept looking at the refs to make sure they didn't call a penalty on us (all you die hard fans know exactly what I am talking about). They didn't, it was good, we are on our way to our first Super Bowl.

Miami, here we come. Playing the Colts with Peyton Manning at center didn't exactly strike me as an easy task. This guy is amazing at the position and is a for sure first ballot hall of famer. The game was great. In the beginning it seemed the Colts had our number, but we never gave up. Sean Payton displayed the greatest coaching in Super Bowl history. Going for it on fourth down, the onside kick (did he really do that?), we played to win. The turning point of the game was when Lance Moore made good on the two point conversion. This changed the tempo and put the Colts on their heels. When it looked like Peyton Manning was going to march down the field, Tracy Porter the football thief struck again. After that interception I lost it. After all these years we are Super Bowl Champions. This Super Bowl means more to us then any Super Bowl to any other city or franchise. After all the city has been through, even before Katrina, we showed the world what a real loyal fan base looks like.

The New Orleans Saints are to New Orleans what red beans are to rice. Their existence synergizes each other.

Thank you Saints for making us proud.

WHO DAT!
