Chalmette Homes for sale
Making national headlines in Hurricane Katrina, Chalmette sustained severe damage. Yet perhaps one of the best qualities of the residents is the courage they exhibit. The homes, apartments, and condominiums in Chalmette, many of them gorgeous properties with in-ground pools and recreation areas, are rebuilt, and the community is stronger now than before.
Chalmette possesses many wonderful qualities that make it a good place to live. Beyond the character of the people, the landmarks and locally famous restaurants add to the appeal. Rocky and Carlos Restaurant and Bar, located on St. Bernard Hwy. is known by Southeast Louisiana as the best family run place to eat home-cooked Italian food, served cafeteria-style.
Nearby the Chalmette Battlefield celebrates the location were the General defeated the British in the war of 1812. A memorial in his honor and plantation home are wonderful to visit in the evening, when the sun is setting through the moss of the oak trees.
Situated as it is down the Mississippi River and close to the Gulf, the seafood industry is integral to life in Chalmette. Boating is part of the way of life here, and the homes are built to accommodate. Chalmette residents also use the Point La Hache and Lower Algiers Ferry to connect to the other side of the River for work and play. Life in the southern part of the state is always an adventure.
