Gentilly Homes for sale

As with Lakeview, Gentilly offers all the recreational advantages of living on Lake Ponchartrain: boating, sailing, and fishing.  In addition, Gentilly has a rich educational heritage in the three Universities located within the community: Dillard University, Southern University at New Orleans, and University of New Orleans.  These schools offer Gentilly residents many artistic and cultural experiences.  Gentilly in turn offers homes and condos that are ideal for students to live.

One of the most popular festivals of the year in New Orleans takes place in Gentilly, the renowned Jazz Fest. The first Jazz Fest was held in 1970, and a local resident remembers attending a single stage event with a few hundred people picnicking on blankets in the city.    The festival is now held at the Fairgrounds Race Track on Gentilly Blvd at the end of April, and is synonymous with the musical and artistic heritage of New Orleans.

The Fairgrounds are also home to the Louisiana Derby, a unique sporting event taking place in the city.  These events make Gentilly a good neighborhood for those who love the music, arts, and the equestrian tradition of New Orleans.  Though the community was shaken during Hurricane Katrina, it is revived, with several community associations, such as the Ponchartrain Park Neighborhood Association, dedicated to excellence in the schools and homes of Gentilly.
