Irish Channel Real Estate

The Irish Channel is a community of Orleans Parish that is located in the proximity of the Garden District, and is up the river from the French Quarter.  One of the unique features of New Orleans is that in its inception, it was naturally divided into cultural centers.  It is easy to see that those from the Emerald Isle lived in Irish Channel, and this particular neighborhood still retains its Irish Heritage today.

Irish Channel Homes for sale

Irish Channel is most well known for its role in hosting the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which it has proudly done since 1947.  This is the neighborhood where one wants to go on St. Patrick’s Day to partake of the annual festivities.  The homes in Irish Channel reflect its historical aspect, for there are many characteristically New Orleans Creole cottages and shotguns with hurricane shutters that serve both a practical and aesthetic purpose.  The exteriors of these homes are painted fresh yellows, whites, and blues, reminding one of summer evenings, once the sun has gone down, and about how good it is to sit on the front porch and enjoy a drink and talk about the day.

The streets and yards of Irish Channel are dotted with live oaks, cypress, and magnolia trees, while many of the backyards contain pecans and fruit trees such as lemons and oranges.  Like the other communities that lie along the river, the Irish Channel sits nestled within view of the levee, which is a great place for a stroll or jog in the morning. A neighborhood association brings Irish Channel together, forming a close knit community.

The Irish Channel is primarily residential, though it borders Magazine St., giving those who live in this neighborhood convenient access to the shops and restaurants on the famous thoroughfare.
