Jefferson Real Estate

The community of Jefferson is located between Metairie and the Mississippi River in Jefferson Parish.  This small neighborhood offers the luxury of quiet living just minutes from the business areas of the city.This area of the larger Jefferson Parish is rich in history, because Jefferson was once part of Orleans Parish, before the boundaries were redrawn.  Thus this area has much of the flavor of New Orleans in its architecture and variety of homeowners.

Jefferson Homes for sale

The homes of Jefferson display the uniqueness of New Orleans residences.  There are single family cottages, as well as shotgun homes and larger homes with white pillars.  In keeping with a community on the river, there are homes that bear a likeness to the larger plantation homes characteristic of southern life.  Bright colors add a splash of drama to the streets, nestled under the arm of the levee.  This neighborhood offers its residents the convenience of living on the east side of the River, in close proximity to the Garden District and Metairie, which is why many buy real estate here.
   
One feature of Jefferson is the presence of the Main Ochsner Hospital, which is located on Jefferson Hwy.  This hospital, which has locations all over Greater New Orleans, offers New Orleaneans state of the art medical care.  There are patients who come to Ochsner from other parts of the country specifically to be taken care of by the health professionals here.
   
Jefferson offers many fitness and recreational opportunities.  The neighborhood has a close proximity to Elmwood Fitness Center, as well as to small parks and trails that dot the levee.  These trails provide access to walking, jogging, and picnicking in view of the river.  On sunny days one may enjoy the ships moving majestically up and down the aquatic thoroughfare.
